Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Update: Suspect JaQuan Thornton Apprehended

Update: 04-12-21 at 12:30 P.M.- Detectives from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Syracuse Police Department and New York State Parole apprehended JaQuan Thornton this morning without incident at the Quality Inn on Farrell Road in the Town of Geddes. Thornton is currently being held in the Justice Center and is scheduled to be arraigned sometime today.

Suspect Resists Arrest & Flees from Traffic Stop

On Wednesday, April 6th, 2022, at

approximately 12:17 A.M., while on Grant Blvd in the City of Syracuse, Officers from the Syracuse Police Department  and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had affixed stolen license plates. Upon making contact with the driver, JaQuan Thornton, 28, of Syracuse, a physical struggle ensued with the Officers. During the struggle the driver was able to break free from the Officers and flee the scene in the vehicle he was stopped in. A Syracuse Police Officer was injured as a result of this interaction and illegal drugs were dropped by the driver. 

The Sheriff's Office has applied for a warrant of arrest for Thornton for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree and Resisting Arrest. 

The Syracuse Police Department has applied for a warrant of arrest for Thornton for Assault in the Third Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree and Resisting Arrest. Anyone with knowledge of Thornton whereabouts is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222 or the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office at 315-435-3032.
