Syracuse University freshman center Uche Izoje has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, according to an announcement from the league.
Izoje’s performances in two recent victories contributed to her recognition. In Syracuse’s win over Binghamton on December 16, she recorded 12 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists in 25 minutes. She followed that with a double-double against Mercyhurst on December 19, posting 23 points and 11 rebounds along with three blocks. Izoje shot 10-for-12 from the field during that game in just 20 minutes of play.
Over those two games, Izoje averaged 17.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and three blocks per game while making nearly seventy percent of her shots from the floor. She currently leads Syracuse in both scoring and rebounding for the season. Within the ACC, she holds the top spot for field goal percentage at .631 and leads in blocks per game at 2.9.
This is Izoje’s third ACC Rookie of the Week honor this year, highlighting her role as a key contributor to Syracuse’s success early in the season. The team finished non-conference play with a record of ten wins and one loss and is now 11-1 overall and undefeated in conference play.
Syracuse will host Duke at home on Sunday, December 28 at the JMA Wireless Dome. Fans are encouraged to wear orange for what is being called an “Orange Out.” Tickets can be purchased through cuse.com/basketballtickets.
