Uche Izoje of Syracuse women’s basketball has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday. This is Izoje’s first time receiving this recognition and marks the first time a Syracuse freshman has earned the award since 2023.
In Sunday’s game, Izoje scored 20 points, collected nine rebounds, and made seven blocks, helping lead Syracuse to a 78-62 win over Howard. She set career highs in points, blocks, and steals (2) during the match against the Bison.
Izoje is currently the only player in the ACC to record seven blocks in a single game this season. She is also the first freshman to reach at least 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks in one game since Gracie Merkle of Bellarmine achieved similar numbers in 2022.
Syracuse will play Auburn at home on Wednesday, December 3 at 5 p.m. as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge before traveling for its first ACC contest at SMU on December 7. Tickets for Wednesday’s game are available at cuse.com/basketballtickets.
