The Syracuse University women’s tennis team will begin its Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament campaign against Wake Forest on April 14. The match, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park, sees Syracuse seeded 13th and Wake Forest seeded 12th. The winner of this opening round will advance to face fifth-seeded Miami in the third round.
This matchup is significant as it marks the continuation of a competitive season for both teams and provides an opportunity for Syracuse to build on its recent successes. For fans and supporters, the tournament offers a chance to see how far the Orange can progress against strong conference rivals.
During the regular season, Monika Wojcik led Syracuse with a 10-8 singles record and tied for most doubles victories on the team with seven wins. Nelly Knezkova and Serafima Shastova also contributed seven doubles wins each. Emma Scaldalai ended her first collegiate season strongly, recording key victories over Florida State and Clemson while finishing with a positive record in ACC play. This spring, Syracuse secured wins over three ITA-ranked opponents: Boston College, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech.
The upcoming contest will be the nineteenth meeting between Syracuse and Wake Forest; historically, Wake Forest leads the series 13-5. However, earlier this season in Winston-Salem on March 27, Syracuse overcame a late deficit to defeat Wake Forest thanks to consecutive singles wins by Knezkova and Leena Bennetto before Wojcik clinched victory in three sets.
Wake Forest enters the tournament after winning three of its last five matches this spring. Notable players include Evie Oxford—named ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week in February—who posted a standout singles record of 17-2; junior Sankavi Gownder with a near-perfect singles mark; senior Nevena Carton recently ranked No.104 nationally; as well as Carton’s doubles partnership with Kady Tannenbaum that has earned them national recognition.
