The Syracuse University women’s tennis team lost 4-2 to Florida State on April 5 at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Florida. The Orange now hold a record of 6-11 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
This match is significant as it marks another close contest for Syracuse during their season, highlighting both strong individual performances and ongoing challenges in doubles play.
Florida State gained an early lead by winning all three doubles matches. Cade Cricchio and M.B. Deatherage defeated Leena Bennetto and Emma Scaldalai 6-3, while Eva Shaw and Laura Putz secured the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Anastasia Sysoeva and Nelly Knezkova. Kristyna Lavickova and Tina Li completed the sweep with a tiebreak victory against Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik.
In singles competition, Shastova quickly evened the score for Syracuse with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over Deatherage. Scaldalai then put Syracuse ahead by beating Lauren Anderson 6-2, 6-2. However, Florida State responded as Lavickova won against Wojcik in straight sets (7-6 [9-7], 6-1), followed by Li overcoming Knezkova in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Cricchio clinched the overall victory for Florida State with a three-set win over Bennetto (7-6 [7–4], 4–6, 6–0). Sysoeva’s match against No.94-ranked Shaw was left unfinished.
Syracuse will return home to Drumlins Country Club for its final two regular season matches next weekend. The Orange are scheduled to face Georgia Tech on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by Clemson on Sunday at 11 a.m.
