The Syracuse University women’s tennis team defeated No. 60 Georgia Tech 4-1 on Apr. 10 at the Drumlins Tennis Club, marking its third win over a ranked opponent this season.

This victory is significant for the Orange, who improved their record to 7-11 overall and 3-8 in conference play. Wins against ranked teams can boost team morale and standings as the regular season nears its end.

Syracuse gained an early lead after doubles play. Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik secured a win at No. 2 doubles, while Nelly Knezkova and Anastasia Sysoeva clinched the doubles point with a tiebreak victory at No. 1 doubles that lasted over an hour.

In singles competition, Georgia Tech’s Alejandra Cruz won her match against Sysoeva, but Syracuse responded with victories from Leena Bennetto, Wojcik, and Shastova to seal the overall win. Knezkova was leading in her match before it went unfinished.

The Orange will return to Drumlins on Sunday for their final regular season match against No. 24 Clemson at 11 a.m., which will also serve as Senior Day for the team.
