Syracuse women’s volleyball falls to Clemson in straight sets

The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team ended its road schedule with a 3-0 loss to Clemson at Jervey Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Orange, now 13-16 overall and 5-14 in the ACC, were defeated by set scores of 25-21, 26-24, and 25-17. Clemson improved to 17-14 for the season with the win.

Gabby McLaughlin led Syracuse with nine kills and added 10 digs during the match. Tehya Maeva contributed 24 assists along with nine digs, while Oreva Evivie recorded four blocks—her highest mark since conference play began.

In the first set, Clemson established an early lead and maintained control throughout. Syracuse narrowed the gap late in the set but was unable to overtake the Tigers, who finished it with a 25-21 win. Kate Hansen paced Clemson in that frame with five kills.

The second set saw both teams trading points frequently, resulting in thirteen ties. McLaughlin registered five kills for Syracuse and tied the score at 24 before Clemson secured two consecutive points to take the set 26-24.

Clemson took command early in the third set and held on for a decisive 25-17 victory. Hansen had seven kills in this frame and totaled a match-high fourteen kills overall for Clemson. Mia McGrath also contributed eleven kills for the Tigers.

Additional performances for Syracuse included Soana Lea’ea’s five kills on .455 hitting efficiency and Sydnie Waller’s six kills paired with three blocks. Rana Yamada led defensively with sixteen digs.

Syracuse hit .138 as a team compared to Clemson’s .254 percentage. Service errors were an issue for Syracuse, which committed ten service errors against just one ace.

Syracuse will conclude its regular season at home against Virginia Tech on Friday afternoon at the Women’s Building. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
