The Syracuse women’s basketball team will host UAlbany on Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. Both teams are entering the game with a 1-0 record. The matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
In their season opener, Syracuse defeated Stony Brook 74-50. Four players scored in double figures for the Orange, with sophomore Shy Hawkins leading the team with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting off the bench. Transfers Laila Phelia and Dominique Darius contributed 12 points each in their first games for Syracuse, while freshman Uche Izoje added 11 points and two blocks.
Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack achieved her 400th career victory during this win, becoming the fourth current ACC head coach to reach this milestone alongside NC State’s Wes Moore, Louisville’s Jeff Walz, and Miami’s Tricia Cullop. “The Orange dominated from the opening tip, building a 22-8 first quarter lead and never relinquishing its lead,” according to Syracuse Athletics. The team shot nearly 50 percent from the field and out-rebounded Stony Brook by a wide margin.
Syracuse aims to rebound from last year’s loss to UAlbany, when Albany earned its first-ever win over Syracuse with a score of 73-70 at the JMA Dome on November 20, 2024. Despite that setback, Syracuse holds a six-to-one advantage in the all-time series between the programs.
