The Syracuse women’s basketball team secured a 73-58 win against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. With this victory, the Orange improved their season record to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The game marked another undefeated performance for Syracuse against Wake Forest during the tenure of head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.

Sophie Burrows contributed four three-pointers, while Uche Izoje recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. “Izoje is the first player to tally consecutive double-doubles for Syracuse since Kyra Wood on Jan. 26, 2025 (vs. Clemson) and Feb. 2, 2025 (vs. Virginia).” Izoje also scored eight points in the first quarter.

The match began with Izoje scoring first for Syracuse before Wake Forest responded with a run of their own. Laila Phelia’s three-point play helped give Syracuse a lead at the end of the first quarter, finishing ahead by one point at 15-14.

In the second quarter, Kiera Scott regained possession after a near steal by Wake Forest and made a layup. Despite back-to-back three-pointers from Wake Forest, Syracuse stayed close throughout the period. Phelia’s buzzer-beating shot from beyond the arc put Syracuse up by one at halftime, leading 32-31.

During the third quarter, Burrows hit two deep three-pointers and Phelia added another from long range as Syracuse extended its lead. The Orange defense held Wake Forest scoreless for more than six minutes, resulting in a 55-39 advantage going into the final period.

Shy Hawkins contributed six points in the fourth quarter by shooting perfectly from both field and free throw line. Burrows added two more three-pointers as Syracuse closed out their road win.

Other notable performances included Laila Phelia collecting five steals out of nine total for Syracuse and Domonique Darius providing nine assists out of twenty for her team. Four players reached double-digit scoring: Uche Izoje (18), Laila Phelia (17), Sophie Burrows (14), and Shy Hawkins (12).

Syracuse will next host Virginia Tech at JMA Wireless Dome on Thursday, January 8th at 6 p.m., where they will recognize Alzheimer’s Awareness Night. Tickets are available online through cuse.com/basketballtickets.
