The achievement acknowledges the city’s efforts in enhancing resident engagement and community development, particularly through its waste management advancements.

The city implemented various measures, such as standardized trash and recycling carts and optimized waste collection routes, which resulted in a remarkable compliance rate of 99.98%. Mayor Ben Walsh emphasized the significance of public engagement in the program’s success, stating, “Public engagement was key to the successful rollout of the trash and recycling carts, as it ensured residents were informed and prepared for the transitions ahead.” The city used social media campaigns, press releases, and direct mailers to communicate effectively with residents, ensuring broad public adoption.

Mayor Walsh highlighted the collaboration between city officials and residents, saying, “By fostering collaboration between city officials and residents, Syracuse has set a powerful example of how effective communication and innovation can lead to lasting improvements in municipal services.” This collaboration played a crucial role in Syracuse’s recognition for its public education and service efficiency.
