Syracuse University has introduced The Syracuse Promise, a $50 million fundraising campaign designed to make education more accessible to students from diverse economic backgrounds. This initiative focuses on expanding and creating scholarship opportunities for high-achieving students.

Chancellor Kent Syverud highlighted the importance of this project by stating, “This initiative ensures that a Syracuse University education remains within reach for every talented and driven student—regardless of financial circumstances.” Syverud emphasized that Syracuse University aims to maintain its tradition of inclusivity and excellence.

The cornerstone of The Syracuse Promise is a $10 million matching initiative, which aims to enhance donor contributions towards scholarship endowments. This program, supported by estate gifts, offers a 1:2 match on eligible donations, thereby encouraging substantial investment in student success. Contributions of $100,000 or more can start new endowed scholarships, while gifts of $50,000 or more can support existing ones.

Currently, 78% of Syracuse students benefit from some form of financial aid, with the university having reduced average student debt by over 10% in recent years. Tracy Barlok, the senior vice president and chief advancement officer, stated, “This initiative is critically important because it allows us to attract and retain students who strengthen our academic excellence and elevate our entire community.” Barlok invites alumni and donors to join in this transformative effort.

Syracuse University, a private research institution, offers a range of disciplines across its 13 schools and colleges. By fostering integration between education and application, it facilitates solving complex challenges through interdisciplinary efforts.
