Syracuse University will honor three distinguished individuals with honorary degrees at its 2025 Commencement on May 11, held at the JMA Wireless Dome. The honorees include Robert “Bob” Mankoff, Ali Meders-Knight, and Judith Greenberg Seinfeld.
Robert Mankoff, a renowned cartoonist known for his work with The New Yorker, will receive a Doctor of Letters degree. Mankoff’s career includes nearly 1,000 cartoons published in The New Yorker and contributions to other notable publications. He is also recognized for his role as a cartoon editor and for pioneering digital media integration in cartooning.
Ali Meders-Knight will be awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree. As executive director of California Open Lands and a Mechoopda tribal member, Meders-Knight is dedicated to environmental stewardship through traditional Indigenous knowledge. Her efforts have included partnerships with various educational institutions and government bodies to promote ecological conservation.
Judith Greenberg Seinfeld will also receive a Doctor of Humane Letters degree. A Syracuse University life trustee and president of Heritage Management Co., Seinfeld has made significant contributions to social causes and the arts. Her philanthropic efforts have supported numerous initiatives at Syracuse University, enhancing opportunities for students and faculty.
The ceremony recognizes these individuals for their professional achievements and societal contributions.
