Syracuse University, in collaboration with the global esports organization Gen.G, has opened registration for its inaugural Campus Takeover event scheduled for September 20-21. The conference aims to bring together students and administrators to explore career opportunities within the esports industry and promote project-based learning.
The two-day event will feature a variety of programs, including the first national Esports Business Case Study Competition for undergraduates interested in esports and gaming. Additional activities include daily keynote presentations, industry panels for collegiate esports professionals, career panels for aspiring esports industry workers, and networking events. This initiative aligns with Syracuse University’s Career Week from September 22-26.
Gen.G CEO Arnold Hur stated, “When we announced our multiyear partnership with Syracuse in December, we committed to enhancing student engagement opportunities. Campus Takeover will provide that opportunity for anyone interested in esports and gaming to learn more about our industry and build an impactful career.”
Executive Director of Esports Joey Gawrysiak expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event at Syracuse University. “We’re absolutely thrilled to bring Gen.G’s award-winning Campus Takeover event to Syracuse University,” he said. Gawrysiak emphasized that the partnership is not only about hosting a major esports event but also fostering collaboration among students, faculty, and staff across various disciplines.
“Campus Takeover will showcase what makes esports such a powerful connector in education,” Gawrysiak added. He highlighted the dynamic programming focused on professional development and competition as key components of the event.
Additionally, Gen.G and Syracuse have collaborated on the Gen.G Practicum Abroad program, which allows students to study intensively in South Korea over three weeks. This complements Syracuse University’s innovative bachelor’s degree in esports communications and management offered jointly by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Falk College of Sport.
The degree program offers three tracks: esports business and management, esports communications, and esports media and design. It prepares students for careers in esports through courses covering event management, marketing, broadcasting/production, content creation, entrepreneurship, strategic communications, and design.
