University researchers are invited to apply for a free hybrid course focused on entrepreneurship in the fields of semiconductors, microelectronics, or advanced materials. The course is offered through the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program.
Running from September 15 to October 15, the virtual course includes an opportunity for an in-person immersion experience at SEMICON West, a major microelectronics conference in Phoenix, Arizona, from October 7-9. Applications are open until August 20.
The course is hosted by Syracuse University and the University of Rochester as part of the Interior Northeast I-Corps Hub (IN I-Corps). It is available to faculty, postdocs, Ph.D. and master’s students, undergraduates, and community-based startups working on semiconductor-related technologies with commercial potential. The NSF I-Corps program at Syracuse University involves collaboration between its Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering, Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and Syracuse University Libraries.
Selected participants may receive up to $5,000 in travel reimbursement to facilitate in-person customer discovery interviews and attendance at specialized workshops during SEMICON West. This event offers exposure to global industry leaders and cutting-edge technologies.
The course provides hands-on entrepreneurship training with one-on-one coaching for researchers in sectors such as advanced lithography, transistor miniaturization, artificial intelligence hardware, and high-power materials. It emphasizes emerging areas critical to semiconductor innovation like 3D integrated circuits and computing chips that mimic neural architecture.
This initiative benefits those interested in research, design, commercialization, and supply chain roles within these industries.
