Syracuse University has highlighted a variety of campus and community activities from the start of the fall 2025 semester, showcasing student engagement, academic events, and alumni gatherings.
During Family Weekend, students and their families gathered on campus for football games and other activities. The university encouraged members of the community to share photos of their experiences, with selected images featured by Syracuse University News.
On September 19, students and staff from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs participated in Block Blitz, an annual day of service organized by Home HeadQuarters. Volunteers worked alongside local businesses and organizations to improve properties in a Syracuse neighborhood through gardening, painting, and driveway maintenance.
The university also partnered with Gen.G., a global esports organization, to host a two-day conference focused on esports, gaming, and entertainment. The event included panel discussions, keynote presentations, networking opportunities, and an Esports Business Case Study Competition.
Other recent events included the Humanities Center’s fall open house; participation in the Mito Energy Walk at Green Lakes State Park to support mitochondrial disease research; alumni gatherings such as the Whitman School’s Reunion in New York City; educational visits like those made by Sophomore Experience Living Learning Community Seminar students to Pete’s Giving Garden; faculty-student interactions during orientation events; athletic team meetings; involvement fairs; art therapy workshops; performances by university bands downtown; military-connected student orientations; legacy family receptions; as well as cultural celebrations such as the Haudenosaunee Welcome Gathering honoring Indigenous nations whose ancestral lands include Syracuse University.
Notable speakers this semester have included NASA astronaut Col. Eileen Collins discussing her career with engineering students. Former men’s basketball player Carmelo Anthony was recognized for his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Head men’s basketball coach Adrian Autry addressed new students at Dome Sweet Dome festivities. More than 550 student-athletes gathered for a department photo before classes began. Events throughout campus provided opportunities for both new and returning students to connect with peers and explore academic programs.
The university continues to invite submissions from its community documenting life at Syracuse through photography.
