New students arriving at Syracuse University for the fall 2025 semester will be welcomed with a series of events and activities during Welcome Week, designed to help them adjust to campus life and connect with their peers.

The week begins on Tuesday, August 19, with the New Student Ice Cream Social at Shaw Quad. Other scheduled events include receptions for families and supporters, residential hall floor meetings, group gatherings such as “The Slice is Right” in the JMA Wireless Dome, and the New Student Convocation on Thursday morning.

Students are encouraged to use the OrangeNow mobile app, available through both the App Store and Google Play. The app provides access to class schedules, campus maps, transit information, dining options, Wi-Fi details, event schedules, university news and more.

Events continue throughout the week with activities like Snapshots and Swag on Einhorn Family Walk, Orange Blast on Shaw Quad followed by an Orange Blast Showcase in Goldstein Auditorium. On Friday evening there is a Welcome Week Fête at Schine Student Center.

Saturday features Citrus in the City—a trip downtown—and concludes with Dome Sweet Dome back at the JMA Wireless Dome. Students can meet at College Place Bus Stop for transportation downtown.

To stay organized during Welcome Week, students are advised to add their SU Mail or Google Calendar to their mobile devices. Faculty and staff use SU Mail to communicate about meetings and important updates. Each student should review their specific school or college’s schedule to ensure they attend all required events.

Campus offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (August 18–22), with extended hours for essential services such as Housing, Meal Plan and I.D. Card Services; Barnes Center; libraries; Registrar; Financial Aid; and Information Technology Services until August 23–24.

Additional resources—including checklists for involvement opportunities, FAQs about Welcome Week logistics, travel and parking guidance—are available online for new students seeking further information about getting involved on campus.
