Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team moved up in national rankings following a road victory against Johns Hopkins, according to a March 9 announcement.
The Orange, now holding a 5-2 record, defeated the previously eleventh-ranked Johns Hopkins with a score of 12-8 at Homewood Field. This marks Syracuse’s fourth win over a top-20 opponent this season.
In the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Coaches Poll, Syracuse climbed three spots to seventh place with 414 points. Notre Dame maintained its position at the top with 610 points and 24 first-place votes. Richmond and Princeton followed in second and third places respectively, while Harvard and Duke rounded out the top five.
Syracuse also advanced two positions in the Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll, ranking eighth with 295 points. Notre Dame again led the poll, followed by Richmond, Princeton, Harvard, and North Carolina. Thirteen teams on Syracuse’s schedule were mentioned in both polls this week, including highly ranked programs such as Notre Dame, Princeton, Harvard, Duke, North Carolina, Maryland, Denver, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Penn, Saint Joseph’s, Boston University and Virginia.
Looking ahead, Syracuse will travel west for two games. The team is scheduled to play Air Force on Thursday, March 12 at 5 p.m. Eastern time before facing No. 12/No. 13 Denver on Monday, March 16 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
