The Syracuse men’s rowing team will travel to Fairlee, Vermont, for the Lake Morey Invite beginning April 25. The ninth-ranked Orange are set to face three nationally ranked opponents over two days of competition on Lake Morey.
This event is important as it features trophy races and matchups with top collegiate programs. The Orange will have the opportunity to reclaim or defend historic trophies and improve their standing ahead of postseason events.
Saturday’s schedule starts with the annual Packard Cup race against No. 7 Dartmouth. The Packard Cup was commissioned in 1959 by Anthony Ladd in honor of Edward N. Packard, a Syracuse alumnus and former varsity eight stroke who helped win SU’s first IRA championship in 1904. Since its inception in 1960, Syracuse has held a strong all-time record but lost the cup last spring after reclaiming it in both 2023 and 2024.
Later Saturday afternoon, Syracuse will face No. 12 Boston University for the Conlan Cup, named after BU rowing program founder Bill Conlan. This trophy has been contested nearly every year since 1987 except for interruptions due to COVID-19 and one missed year in the mid-1990s. The Orange currently lead the series with a narrow edge and have won each edition from 2022 through last season.
On Sunday morning, Syracuse concludes its weekend racing against No. 19 Georgetown, holding a higher ranking entering this matchup as they aim to build on momentum from Saturday’s trophy contests.
The full race schedule includes multiple events each day featuring various boat classes between Syracuse and its competitors.
