Syracuse men’s rowing is ranked ninth in the IRCA/IRA Week 1 Varsity 8 Coaches Poll as announced on Apr. 8. The Orange received 156 points, dropping from a tie for seventh place in the preseason rankings.

The ranking comes just before Syracuse opens its spring season at the Princeton Invite on Saturday at Carnegie Lake. The event will feature several highly-ranked teams, including No. 2 California, No. 5 Brown, No. 10 Penn, and No. 11 Yale. Host Princeton holds the fourth spot in the poll with 195 points; however, Syracuse will not compete against them during this event.

Washington leads the Week 1 poll with all nine first-place votes and a total of 225 points. Harvard follows closely with 210 points while Princeton rounds out the top four teams nationally according to coaches’ votes.

Dartmouth and Stanford are ranked sixth and seventh respectively, while Northeastern sits just ahead of Syracuse at eighth place with 161 points.

The upcoming races at Princeton will provide an early assessment for Syracuse as it looks to build momentum against some of college rowing’s strongest programs.
