Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team held its position in the top five of the Coaches poll and moved up one spot in the Media Poll after defeating Virginia, according to an April 13 announcement.
The team’s continued high ranking follows a season marked by strong performances against ranked opponents. Syracuse secured its eighth win over a top-20 team this season with a 14-9 victory against No. 13/No. 9 Virginia at home, marking their sixth home win.
In this week’s USILA Division I Coaches Poll, Syracuse (10-3, 2-1 ACC) remained at number five with 487 points. Notre Dame took the top spot with 595 points and most first-place votes, followed by Princeton and North Carolina. Richmond was fourth ahead of Syracuse. In the Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll, Syracuse earned 365 points and moved closer to Richmond’s fourth-place position.
Thirteen of Syracuse’s fifteen regular season opponents were mentioned in this week’s Coaches Poll rankings, including Notre Dame, Princeton, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgetown, Harvard, Virginia, Johns Hopkins, Duke and Penn; Boston University, Denver and Saint Joseph’s also received votes. The Inside Lacrosse Media Poll included ten Orange opponents among its ranked teams or those receiving votes.
Syracuse will step out of Atlantic Coast Conference play to host Colgate on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome for their regular season home finale. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start time and will include recognition for seniors and their families.
