The City of Syracuse is set to conduct two webinars aimed at introducing the “Look Before You Rent” online tool. This platform provides residents with insights into rental properties across the city. Through an interactive map, users can search by address or neighborhood to check a property’s status on the City’s Rental Registry and Certificate of Compliance programs. The tool also highlights code violations and other relevant property details.

Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens, who played a key role in developing this resource, stated, “Look Before You Rent is a community asset and especially useful for renters, property owners, housing-focused agencies, real estate agents and prospective buyers.” She emphasized the necessity for residents to easily access information about open code violations and rental certificate statuses using city data and resources.

Scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., and Wednesday, June 11 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., these webinars will be conducted by staff from the Departments of Neighborhood and Business Development as well as Analytics, Performance & Innovation. Participants will learn how to use the tool effectively and have opportunities for questions and feedback.

Interested individuals must register to attend. More information on registration can be found at goto.syr.gov/lbyr-webinars. For detailed instructions on using the tool itself, visit syr.gov/look-before-you-rent.
