The Syracuse International Jazz Fest is set to return, bringing a mix of renowned performers and emerging talent to Central New York. The event will take place from June 25-29 at various locations across the city, culminating in a special finale at Hendricks Chapel.

This year’s festival features notable artists such as Trombone Shorty, The Spinners, Gunhild Carling, and Todd Rundgren. Additionally, the University’s student jazz ensemble, Orange Juice, will perform on Friday, June 27 at Clinton Square.

The festival’s grand finale is titled “Return to Community: A Sunday Gospel Jazz Service” and will occur on June 29 at Hendricks Chapel. It will feature performances by the Spelman College Glee Club alongside the University’s Black Celestial Choral Ensemble and a community choir from Syracuse.

Orange Juice is a student ensemble from the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Setnor School of Music. They are scheduled to perform music by Wayne Shorter, Thelonius Monk, Michel Legrande among others. This marks their third appearance at the festival under John Coggiola’s direction.

Reverend Brian Konkol expressed enthusiasm for hosting the gospel jazz service at Syracuse University. “To host the Sunday Gospel Jazz Service on the campus of Syracuse University is a joy and honor,” he said. He highlighted that this event would offer an uplifting experience celebrating gospel and jazz music with contributions from esteemed groups like the Spelman College Glee Club.

All events associated with the Syracuse International Jazz Fest are free for public attendance. More information about schedules and artists can be found on syracusejazzfest.com.
