The Syracuse Fire Department emerged victorious in a charity basketball game, an event celebrated for its community spirit and contribution to local causes. Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh highlighted the communal aspect of the event, stating, “This game represents the best of what community is all about.”

Fire Department Chief Michael Monds emphasized that while winning was gratifying, the true achievement lay in their collaboration with United Way. “While we’re honored to take home the trophy this year, the real victory is the impact we’re able to make through our partnership with United Way,” he said.

Proceeds from the game will support United Way programs focused on education, health, and financial stability in Central New York. Nancy Eaton, President of United Way of CNY, expressed appreciation for the support received: “We are incredibly thankful for the generosity and dedication shown by the SFD and SPD, and by everyone who came out to support this event. Community-driven efforts like this are what allow us to do the work we do.”

The victory also highlights a friendly rivalry between city departments, reflecting shared values of service and leadership. Plans are already underway to host another event next year with hopes of increasing participation and fundraising.
