SU News is seeking stories of pet adoption in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, which takes place on April 30. The organization is looking for narratives from individuals who have adopted their pets from shelters, sharing experiences of “friendship, loyalty and love.”

The day serves as a reminder of the importance of pet adoption, especially from overcrowded shelters that face high euthanasia rates. “Choosing to adopt from these shelters not only provides a pet with a second chance but also frees up space for other animals in need.”

The call for submissions aims to showcase the positive impact of adopting from shelters. “Adopting a pet from any type of shelter isn’t just an act of kindness—it’s a direct way to save lives and support the open-admission shelters that need it the most,” the organization notes.

SU News encourages students, faculty, staff, and alumni to submit their pet rescue stories and photos. Submissions can be sent to Vanessa Marquette at vrmarque@syr.edu. The deadline to contribute is Wednesday, April 23.
