The City of Syracuse Department of Engineering has announced the availability of the Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) municipal separate stormwater sewer systems (MS4) draft Annual Report for public review and comment.
The SWMP is a requirement under the NYSDEC’s State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) General Permit. It details efforts to mitigate stormwater pollution. The purpose of this General Permit is to minimize sediment and pollution entering surface and ground water from storm sewer systems as much as possible. As part of the permit, the city must develop a SWMP that includes best management practices. The MS4 Annual Report evaluates progress on these initiatives for the year ending January 2, 2025, and outlines new objectives for the coming year.
These documents are accessible on the Engineering Department’s website at syr.gov/Departments/Engineering/Municipal-Separate-Storm-Sewer-Systems-MS4s. The public can submit comments until Friday, March 28.
