Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay has announced the appointments for the Assembly Minority Joint Budget Conference Committee for the fiscal year 2025-2026. The announcement comes as state budget discussions progress towards the April 1st deadline.
Leader Barclay emphasized the importance of these committees in shaping the state budget. "As state budget discussions take shape ahead of the April 1st deadline, the Joint Budget Conference Committees are a critical part of the process," he stated. He also highlighted concerns about affordability and fiscal responsibility, noting that his colleagues are aware of "the affordability crisis impacting millions of households" and are dedicated to managing taxpayer funds responsibly.
Barclay expressed a desire for a new approach to budgeting in New York State. "Every New Yorker would benefit from a state budget that breaks the patterns of runaway spending and closed-door secrecy," he said. He views this year's process as an opportunity to establish higher standards for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
