Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has introduced the Adopt-a-Trail initiative, a new program by the Syracuse Department of Parks & Recreation. The initiative encourages groups, businesses, and individuals to adopt sections of either the Onondaga Creekwalk Trail or the Empire State Trail on Erie Boulevard East. Participants will be tasked with litter removal, reporting maintenance needs, and organizing three cleanup events annually.
"Adopt-a-Trail offers an opportunity for park users to play an active role in protecting the areas they frequently visit," stated Mayor Walsh. "This coordinated effort will help ensure that trail sections remain accessible and that resources are preserved."
Those interested in participating in cleanup events without adopting a trail section can find information about upcoming events at https://syr.gov/Events. Volunteers can contribute individually or as part of a group to maintain cleaner green spaces.
The city also runs Mayor Walsh's Clean-up 'Cuse Adopt-a-Block program, which allows individuals and organizations to commit to monthly cleanups of designated city blocks. More details are available at https://syr.gov/adoptablock.
