The Maxwell School of Syracuse University will honor five distinguished alumni at the Awards of Excellence event on March 27 in Washington, D.C. The event will be held at Syracuse University's new center in Dupont Circle, which houses the Institute for Democracy, Journalism and Citizenship. This annual event not only celebrates the achievements of these alumni but also underscores the school's commitment to engaged citizenship.

Dean David M. Van Slyke emphasized the importance of this gathering: "We are honored to welcome members of the Maxwell community to join us for an evening of celebration and reflection," he said. He further noted that this year's awardees have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, which is central to the school's mission since its founding in 1924.

Margaret Abraham will receive the 1924 Award for her leadership in sociology and social justice advocacy. She has been influential as a professor at Hofstra University and has served as past president of the International Sociological Association.

Tom Bozzuto, co-founder of The Bozzuto Group, will be honored with the Bridge Award for his leadership in real estate development and civic engagement. His contributions extend beyond his professional achievements to include significant roles in various charitable organizations.

Sahil Jain will be recognized with the Compass Award for his accomplishments as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. Jain's work has significantly impacted U.S. policy related to South and Central Asia.

Ana Maria Menezes will receive the Spirit of Public Service Award for her global impact on aquaculture and natural resource management through her role with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.

Lastly, Tiesha Peal will be awarded the Charles V. Willie Advocate Award for her efforts in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within her role as a federal immigration judge.

This event marks an opportunity for alumni and friends to reconnect while celebrating contributions that align with Maxwell School’s values.
