The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced a schedule for the collection of natural Christmas trees in January. The pickup will follow a quadrant-based system, with residents in the Northeast setting out their trees on January 4-5, those in the Southeast on January 11-12, Southwest residents on January 18-19, and Northwest on January 25-26.
Residents are instructed to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel, stands, plastic, and metal from their trees before placing them curbside. The DPW clarified that natural wreaths, garlands or swags containing metal will not be accepted. Artificial trees should be properly bagged and disposed of within city-provided trash carts according to the regular pickup schedule or by arranging a bulk pickup through Cityline at 315-448-CITY (2489).
Additionally, residents have the option to drop off their Christmas trees at Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) facilities. Trees can be taken to either the Jamesville Compost Site at 4370 Route 91 in Jamesville or the Amboy Compost Site at 6296 Airport Road in Camillus. These sites will accept free tree drop-offs Monday through Friday from January 6 to January 17, 2025, between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Further details about tree disposal can be found online in the city's services guide available at syr.gov/PublicWorks.
