Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh expressed his approval following the signing of a new 2% hotel room occupancy tax legislation. The mayor believes this measure will benefit both the city and the surrounding region by enhancing Syracuse's downtown and convention district.

Mayor Walsh stated, "A 2% hotel room tax for Syracuse is good for the City and the region. A Syracuse with a safe, vibrant downtown and convention district will increase tourism and revenue for both the City and the County, and aid in building the City’s fiscal stability without negatively impacting local taxpayers."

He emphasized that this tax would ensure visitors contribute to the city's growth, benefiting both residents and tourists. Mayor Walsh also extended his gratitude to various stakeholders who supported this initiative: "This tax ensures visitors contribute directly to the vibrancy and growth of the places they enjoy, creating a win-win for residents and travelers alike. I thank the Common Council for its support, Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli and our full state delegation for advancing the proposal and Governor Hochul for signing this legislation."

The introduction of this tax aims to bolster fiscal stability while fostering economic growth in Syracuse.
