On Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski) attended the Oswego County Office of the Aging’s annual senior luncheon to greet attendees and recognize three individuals who earlier this year were honored by the New York State Office for the Aging for their contributions to Oswego County.

Those individuals are Harold and Sue Wert and Father George Wurz. Sara Sunday, the director of the Oswego County Office for the Aging, and Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay presented each with a citation thanking them for making their communities a better place to live.

Harold and Sue Wert have significantly impacted their community through meal deliveries. Through their dedication to service, they have fostered a sense of community. They not only share meals but books for anyone looking for a good read. Their commitment started years ago when Harry served as a town judge for 30 years and Sue served as a village clerk for 20 years. Harold and Sue represent the spirit of volunteerism.

Father George Wurz has provided immeasurable spiritual guidance to the Oswego Community for decades. Father Wurz is a lifelong New York resident and has been involved in various civic organizations. From his leadership at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church to his advocacy for inmates at the Oswego County Jail, Father Wurz understands the need for genuine connection with others.

Leader Barclay extended his gratitude to all volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to strengthen their communities. He especially thanked Mr. and Mrs. Wert and Father Wurz for being an integral part of the Oswego community and making a positive impact in others' lives.
