Mayor Ben Walsh, Parks Commissioner Tony Williams, and Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today (TNT) representatives welcomed community members and stakeholders on July 30 for the unveiling of the new splash pad at Washington Square Park, located at 101 Washington Square, 13208, on the Northside of Syracuse.

“Our new splash pad in Washington Square Park is an investment in families and fun on the Northside,” said Mayor Walsh. “This new neighborhood amenity offers another great option for our community to stay cool on these hot summer days and enjoy quality time with family and friends alike.”

The splash pad – an investment of nearly $170,000 – is a testimony to the power of grassroots involvement, largely driven by dedicated residents and community stakeholders. The project was made possible by funding from the Reisman Foundation, the Central New York Community Foundation via TNT, with additional funds from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding and Parks Capital.

“For over 20 years, Tomorrow’s Neighborhood Today has been proud to be a part of bringing volunteer-driven projects like this to fruition,” said Common Councilor Jimmy Monto. “A big thanks to Maureen Dore and Josh Wilcox for their vision and love for this city.”

“In 2009, Syracuse rededicated Washington Square Park with the rehabilitation of its historic fountain,” said Common Councilor Marty Nave. “To have a Splash Pad is a wonderful asset to our children who call Washington Square home.”

The new splash pad, designed by Denzak Recreational Design & Supply Inc. and City Parks Planning & Development, was purchased from Vortex Aquatic Structures International and installed by Kevin Leach Landscaping. It replaces an aging spray bollard with a pad that includes a self-activated spinning spray pole with six ground sprays. Additional improvements to the park include a new drinking fountain and bleachers.
