The Office of Pre-College Programs at Syracuse University has received a $150,000 gift from the Campos Foundation to support recipients of the Campos Foundation Scholarship. This contribution is part of a larger pledge of $2.15 million to the university under the Forever Orange Campaign, benefiting both Summer College and the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Summer College offers immersive programs for high school students to gain practical skills and enhance their professional portfolios. The Campos Foundation Scholarship, established in collaboration with the foundation and the Office of Pre-College Programs, aims to empower high school students enrolled in pre-college IT and engineering courses. Over 2022 and 2023, this scholarship supported 59 students.

“Students leave Summer College with a fresh outlook and a better understanding of who they are and the goals they want to achieve,” said Christopher Cofer, executive director of the Office of Pre-College Programs. “The Campos Foundation Scholarship offers access to a transformative experience.”

Marco Campos P’25, founder of the Campos Foundation, expressed his goal to "level the playing field" for first-generation students and provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. “This program offers students the opportunity to have exposure to networking and a college environment,” he stated. “We want to help move the needle for students in the world of STEM.”

High school students meeting scholarship criteria who are enrolled in classes within the College of Engineering and Computer Science or School of Information Studies are automatically considered for this scholarship.

Sylvia, a previous recipient enrolled in a biomedical engineering course at Summer College, shared her experience: “My experience was fun, eye-opening, and a roller coaster. This experience made me more excited to go to college because it proved to me that I have what it takes. I am so thankful to the people who helped make this possible.”
