The University's Facilities Services team, along with Syracuse Haulers, recently went above and beyond to return a lost passport to a student. The team's dedication and effort were highlighted in this unique incident.
Seamus Moran, the team's weekend dispatcher, received a call from a student who accidentally recycled their passport. Moran quickly informed Macky MacPherson, the weekend supervisor, who then contacted Joe Lore, the supervisor of facility maintenance and project services.
Lore wasted no time and coordinated with Steve Ruge from Syracuse Haulers to halt the disposal process. Lore and Ruge then meticulously searched through over three tons of recycling and garbage at the company's facility in East Syracuse. Despite the daunting task, Lore remained determined, driven by a sense of responsibility to help the student.
After a thorough search, Ruge successfully located the passport within 45 minutes. The passport was promptly returned to the student, much to their relief and gratitude. Pete Sala, the vice president and chief campus facilities officer, commended the team for their unwavering commitment to assisting the University community in any situation.
Lore described this incident as one of the most unusual requests he has encountered in his tenure. Nevertheless, he expressed satisfaction in being able to assist a student in distress. As Sala aptly noted, not all heroes wear capes, emphasizing the team's dedication to their responsibilities.
