Syracuse University has taken a significant step in advancing its housing strategy with the recent purchase of the Hotel Skyler Syracuse. The acquisition of this hotel, located just up the street from the Syracuse campus on South Crouse Avenue, is part of the University's ongoing efforts to enhance its campus facilities in line with its strategic housing plan.

John Papazoglou, senior vice president and chief operations officer at Syracuse University, highlighted the importance of this acquisition in providing continued top-tier services to the campus community. He stated, "This acquisition will allow the University to continue providing first-class hotel services to our campus community in a way that aligns with the priorities and goals of our overarching strategic housing plan."

The purchase of Hotel Skyler Syracuse comes after the University's decision to convert the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center into student housing starting in fall 2024. Papazoglou emphasized the University's commitment to supporting accommodation and event space needs, stating, "The University is evaluating how to best support the various accommodation and event space needs of our academic and administrative partners."

In addition to acquiring Hotel Skyler Syracuse, Syracuse University is also making strategic changes to its housing portfolio. The University plans to build a new residence hall at 700 Ostrom Ave., demolish Marion Hall and Kimmel Hall and Dining Center to make way for a modern residence hall, and fully integrate the apartment complex at 727 South Crouse into its housing options for sophomores.

The University's proactive approach to enhancing its housing offerings aligns with its overarching Campus Framework and aims to provide students and staff with improved access to campus facilities and amenities. With the Hotel Skyler Syracuse acquisition and the upcoming changes to the University's housing landscape, Syracuse University is poised to meet the evolving needs of its campus community.
