New York State Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay, representing Pulaski, shared his thoughts at the General Budget Conference Committee meeting in Albany today. Leader Barclay expressed concerns about the budget plans put forth by the governor and the Majority Conference, particularly criticizing the proposed spending increases. He highlighted the potential consequences, stating, "If enacted, spending proposals offered by Majority lawmakers would result in state spending levels jumping roughly 40% in the past five years."

Additionally, Leader Barclay showed his support for specific measures within the Assembly One-House Budget resolution. He mentioned backing the restoration of the “hold harmless” provision in school funding, addressing the challenges of rising childcare costs, and preventing the closure of five state prisons. These initiatives were among the various aspects of the budget that he endorsed, saying, "The Leader shared support for numerous measures included in the Assembly One-House Budget resolution."

Concluding his remarks, Leader Barclay emphasized the importance of transparency and fiscal responsibility in the budget process. He urged for a final agreement that would address the outmigration crisis, create more economic opportunities, and safeguard the finances of New Yorkers. He stated, "In closing, he called for greater transparency and fiscal responsibility in the budget process, in hopes the final agreement will mitigate the outmigration crisis, foster greater economic opportunities and protect more of New Yorkers’ hard-earned money."
