St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. This award acknowledges the hospital’s efforts to provide stroke patients with care that meets nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
Stroke remains a significant health issue in the United States, ranking as the fifth leading cause of death and a major contributor to disability. A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage or a burst vessel, resulting in brain cell death if not treated quickly. Early detection and timely treatment are critical for improving survival rates and reducing long-term disability.
The Get With The Guidelines program aims to help hospitals across the country align their patient care practices with current research and evidence-based standards. By following these guidelines, hospitals can reduce the lasting effects of strokes and improve patient outcomes.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire stroke team at St. Joseph’s Health,” said Dr. Fahed Saada, neurologist and Stroke Program Director at St. Joseph’s Health. “We are proud to deliver care that is fast, evidence-based, and focused on improving outcomes for every patient. Stroke care is time-sensitive, and our ability to act quickly and effectively can make all the difference in a patient’s recovery.”
“St. Joseph’s Health is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” Meredith A. Price, CPA, FHFMA, Senior Vice President, Acute Operations at St. Joseph’s Health said. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The end goal is to ensure more people in Syracuse can experience longer, healthier lives.”
