St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, New York, has enhanced its surgical capabilities with the addition of the da Vinci SP (Single Port) robotic surgical system by Intuitive. This development provides patients with access to advanced minimally invasive surgical technology.

The da Vinci SP system is designed for delicate and complex procedures through a single incision. It features a narrow, flexible port and a 3D high-definition camera system, offering surgeons improved precision and control. This platform may lead to less pain, quicker recovery times, and minimal scarring for patients.

Dr. Po N. Lam, an affiliated urologic surgeon at St. Joseph’s Health and physician with Associated Medical Professionals of NY, has started using the new system for procedures at St. Joseph’s Health.

“We are proud to bring this state-of-the-art system to St. Joseph’s Health,” said Dr. Lam. “The da Vinci SP platform allows us to reach and treat areas of the body that were previously more difficult to access with traditional robotic surgery.”

Meredith A. Price, CPA, FHFMA, Senior Vice President of Acute Operations at St. Joseph’s Health stated: “Our investment in this next-generation surgical system reflects our continued commitment to advancing care in Central New York.”

St. Joseph’s Health is committed to surgical innovation and will begin training affiliated surgeons on the da Vinci SP system over the next month. The system supports colorectal and urologic surgeries and complements the hospital’s existing robotic-assisted surgery program.
