Five members of the Syracuse men’s cross country team and one member of the women’s team earned All-ACC honors at the ACC Cross Country Championships held at Sawyer State Park. Sam Lawler, Assaf Harari, Peter Walsdorf, Benne Anderson, and Matthew Neill were recognized for their performances in the men’s race, while Selma Anderson received All-ACC distinction on the women’s side by finishing within the top 21.
The Syracuse men secured second place overall in the conference championship. The team has now finished either first or second in 11 out of their 13 seasons competing in the ACC. Lawler was the top finisher for Syracuse, placing eighth with a time of 22:55.8 over the 8k course. He was followed by Harari (11th, 22:55.0), Walsdorf (14th, 23:02.1), Anderson (15th, 23:06.5), and Neill (17th, 23:14.7). Ben Gabelman completed the scoring lineup with a time of 23:22.7 to finish in 23rd place.
Other runners representing Syracuse included Louis Small (23:43.3), Sam Ricchiuti (23:50.0), Ruben Rojas Betanzos (23:50.3), and Connell Alford (24:20.8).
Virginia claimed the men’s team title with a score of 61 points, narrowly ahead of Syracuse’s total of 65 points. Wake Forest and Notre Dame finished third and fourth with scores of 111 and 114 points respectively.
On the women’s side, Selma Anderson led Syracuse by finishing in 20th place with a time of 20:01.7 over six kilometers. Madeline Heintz was next for Syracuse at position number 62 in a time of 20:46.0; Emma Eastman placed 63rd overall in 20:46.9; Nyah Hernandez came five places later at position number 68 with a time of 20:55.7; Jayden Harberts rounded out Syracuse’s scoring five by taking position number 90 with a time of 21:18.5.
Maisie Burns (21:37.2), Carmen Luisi (21:20.7), Alycia Hart (22:03.6) and Beatriz Fernandes (22:48.4) also competed for Syracuse.
NC State won the women’s team title with a score of 28 points; Notre Dame took second place with an overall score of 89 points while Syracuse finished as a team in thirteenth place with a total score of 303 points.
Syracuse will take two weeks off before returning to competition at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet where its men’s squad will look to defend its previous team title.
