National Grid and Syracuse University’s Office of Pre-College Programs have announced a new partnership to launch the National Grid Summer College Scholars Program. The initiative aims to encourage interest in STEM and energy literacy among high school students from the Syracuse City School District.
The program will provide full scholarships for 20 to 25 students each year over the next three summers. These scholarships will cover tuition, program fees, and room and board for participants in the Summer College – On Campus program at Syracuse University. Students will be able to choose from a selection of credit and noncredit courses focused on STEM fields, with plans to expand offerings related to energy literacy in future years.
John Pettigrew, global chief executive officer for National Grid, said, “We are looking to tomorrow as we partner with Syracuse University to invest and develop the skills and mindsets of the next generation of engineers today.”
Robert Simmons III, National Grid’s vice president for U.S. social impact and community engagement and executive director of the National Grid Foundation, stated, “National Grid has an unwavering support of STEM education. More than inspiring young minds and preparing students for future careers in energy-related fields, this program strengthens our communities and drives progress for decades to come.”
Christopher Cofer, executive director of the Office of Pre-College Programs at Syracuse University, added, “We’re excited to deepen our commitment to energy education and to provide transformative experiences for students across Syracuse. This partnership is a shared investment in equity, education, and the future of energy.”
