Mayor Ben Walsh expressed his condolences following the passing of Van Robinson, highlighting Robinson’s significant contributions to the community and the nation. Mayor Walsh noted Robinson’s “soft voice and patient way” which masked his “immense strength and steely determination.”
Robinson served in the U.S. Navy, led the NAACP, and held positions as a Common Councilor and Council President. His leadership was pivotal in decisions such as the removal of the Interstate 81 viaduct. Despite declining health in recent years, Robinson remained present at important events for Syracuse.
“Syracuse is a better city because of Van’s service and sacrifice,” said Mayor Walsh, extending sympathies to Linda, the Robinson family, and all who loved him.
