Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has appointed Sol Muñoz as the Senior Public Information Officer in the City’s Office of Communications. In her new role, Muñoz will oversee public policy communications, media relations, digital content development, and community outreach initiatives. She is tasked with developing and sharing essential information regarding city activities, services, programs, projects, and goals with Syracuse residents and community partners.
Previously serving as the Infrastructure Public Information Officer, Muñoz was responsible for public information and communication efforts for the Departments of Public Works, Engineering, Water, and Cityline. Her work included informing residents and stakeholders about infrastructure projects such as road reconstruction, trash and recycling cart systems implementation, sidewalk rehabilitation programs, snow removal operations, safety protocols, and Interstate 81 construction coordination.
Before her tenure with the City of Syracuse, Muñoz worked as a Community and Content Manager at Soul Excellence Publishing. There she managed websites, events, marketing platforms, and community outreach programs. She also completed a marketing internship with the WISE Women’s Business Center where she supported events programming while creating social media content and promotional materials.
Muñoz holds a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management. She earned a Bachelor of Music with a Business Management Outside Field and Latin American Studies Minor from Ithaca College. Additionally, she received an International Baccalaureate Bilingual Diploma in English and Spanish from Washington International School in Washington D.C.
