Anthony Ruscitto, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Syracuse University graduate, has been named a 2025 Tillman Scholar by the Pat Tillman Foundation. The recognition highlights his dedication to serving veterans and his community.
Veterans often grapple with their future after military service. Ruscitto faced this uncertainty in 2019 but is now pursuing a law degree at Syracuse University’s College of Law. He plans to use his education to provide legal assistance to fellow veterans.
The Tillman Scholar award supports military members, veterans, and spouses who are emerging leaders in various fields. Recipients receive scholarships, leadership development opportunities, and access to a national network.
The scholarship honors Pat Tillman, an NFL player who joined the U.S. Army and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004. The Pat Tillman Foundation was established by his family and friends.
Syracuse University is affiliated with the foundation as a partner university. To date, 15 students from the university have received this honor.
Ruscitto has worked with the Onondaga County Veterans Service Agency assisting veterans with disability benefits applications. This fall, he will offer pro bono legal services through the Betty and Michael D. Wohl Veterans Legal Clinic.
In an interview with SU News, Ruscitto discussed his motivations for becoming a Tillman Scholar: “Seeing how Katy [Quartaro] and other Tillman Scholars positively impact others motivated me to apply.”
He also reflected on being recognized: “I’ve been reflecting on the impact and legacy I have had so far… my best work and biggest impacts are yet to come.”
Ruscitto’s academic background includes degrees in forensic science, psychology, public administration, and he is currently enrolled in the J.D. program at Syracuse University.
His commitment extends beyond law; he plans to volunteer teaching literacy skills through United Way’s Book Buddy program while expanding resources for veterans locally.
