Elijah Mallard set a new school record in the 300-meter dash at the Cornell Greg Page Relays, leading the Syracuse track and field team in its season opener. Mallard finished with a time of 33.85 seconds, breaking his own previous record and winning the event by nearly a full second.
The Syracuse team secured four event wins during the meet. In addition to Mallard’s performance, Tawakal Omar won the men’s 60-meter hurdles in his first competition for Syracuse, finishing in 8.28 seconds. Jamir Brown posted a time of 7.71 seconds in the preliminaries but did not finish in the finals.
In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Peyton Rollins took first place with a time of 8.40 seconds, followed closely by Emeline Clark at 8.46 seconds. Other competitors included Marissa Saunders (9.11), Ivana Richards (9.29), and Billie Frazier (9.36).
Indie Wallace-Persaud achieved her first collegiate victory by winning the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7.42 seconds. Esther Ganda (7.94), Jada Williams (8.39), and Bianca Williams (8.61) also competed for Syracuse in the preliminaries.
Luise Hiltzbleck finished second in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:17.68, while Grace Finnegan placed fourth at 10:35.74.
Blake Parker led Syracuse runners in the women’s mile by finishing third in 5:19.98, followed by Hailey Schuemann (ninth, 5:32.68), Lizzie Bigelow (tenth, 5:35.66), Samantha Bloch (fourteenth, 6:07.95), and Kayla Harding three places behind Bloch.
The Orange are scheduled to compete again in January.
