Syracuse University senior midfielder Luke Rhoa was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement by the conference on April 14.
The recognition marks the first time in Rhoa’s career that he has received this weekly honor from the ACC. The award comes after his performance in Syracuse’s recent game against Virginia, where he contributed significantly to his team’s victory.
Rhoa, who is from Potomac, Maryland and a graduate of St. John’s College High School, scored three goals and provided an assist as fifth-ranked Syracuse defeated No. 13 Virginia with a score of 14-9 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday. He made three goals out of seven shots, finding the net with all three shots on goal. Two of these goals helped maintain a lead for Syracuse early in the game, while his third goal increased their advantage midway through the third quarter.
Saturday’s hat trick was Rhoa’s fourth this season and his third in five games. He has scored at least two goals in every ACC game so far this year and has achieved a hat trick in two out of three conference matches.
In other weekly honors announced by the ACC, Notre Dame defenseman Nate Schwitzenberg was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.
Syracuse will play its final nonconference game of the regular season against Colgate at home this Saturday at 5 p.m., with coverage available on ACC Network. The matchup will be their 65th meeting since their series began over a century ago. Before Saturday’s contest, Syracuse will hold a pregame ceremony to honor its senior class.
