Ian and Noah Eagle, a father-son duo in sportscasting, share a deep connection with Syracuse University. Ian, a seasoned announcer for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and long-time Brooklyn Nets TV announcer for YES Network, has an award-winning career covering NFL and NBA games. His son Noah is emerging as a prominent figure in sports broadcasting, having worked on events like the Super Bowl and serving as the voice of Team USA basketball at the Olympics.

Reflecting on his son’s achievements, Ian remarked, “When Noah was calling Team USA basketball games at the Summer Olympics, I was watching as a fan but also as a proud father and as a broadcaster who studies what the broadcaster is saying and what information they’re using in the moment.” He added that he was impressed by Noah’s performance.

Noah attributes his interest in sportscasting to observing his father’s enthusiasm for calling games. “I see it’s possible and knew what to expect with this job,” he said. Both Eagles have been nominated for Sports Emmys for Outstanding Personality/Play-by-Play. On June 30, Ian will receive the National Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Sports Media Association.

The Eagles’ ties to Syracuse University are strong; both earned degrees from its S.I. Newhouse School of Communications. Ian’s wife Alisa also graduated from Syracuse with a degree in retailing, while their daughter Erin earned an advertising degree there.

In honor of Father’s Day, they appeared on the “’Cuse Conversations” podcast to discuss their bond and how Syracuse has influenced their lives. Ian expressed pride in sharing his profession with Noah: “The pride that you have as a dad that your child is interested in what you do…it’s been more than I could have ever expected.”

Noah appreciates his father’s approach: “He’s meant everything to me…he let me learn for myself.” The two share memories beyond sports; movies and music are central to their relationship.

Their connection to Syracuse remains significant. Ian stated: “It is the backbone of what I do.” Meanwhile, Noah recalled visiting campus with his mother who described it as her “happy place.”

The Eagles shared memorable moments such as when both were broadcasting during a Syracuse vs. Miami game in February 2018—Ian for CBS and Noah for WAER-FM.
