Crouse Health has been recognized by the American Heart Association for its efforts in providing quality stroke care. The hospital received the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke GoldPlus quality achievement award, which acknowledges hospitals that follow nationally recognized, research-based guidelines for treating stroke patients.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. It occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked or a vessel bursts, resulting in loss of oxygen to brain cells. Early detection and prompt treatment are important to improve patient outcomes and reduce long-term effects.
The Get With The Guidelines program supports hospitals across the country by encouraging adherence to evidence-based practices for stroke care. This approach aims to improve survival rates and reduce disability among stroke patients.
“As a nationally designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, Crouse is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said Neuroscience Medical Director David Padalino, MD. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The end goal is to ensure more people in Central New York can experience longer, healthier lives.”
Crouse Health also earned additional honors from the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM initiative. The hospital was named to both the Honor Roll Elite Plus and Honor Roll Advanced Therapy lists by meeting criteria that focus on reducing treatment times for eligible patients receiving thrombolytic therapy or clot removal procedures.
In addition, Crouse received recognition from the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll program, which focuses on ensuring that hospitalized stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes receive up-to-date care due to their higher risk for complications.
Since its inception in 2001, Get With The Guidelines has reached over 14 million patients nationwide. More information about this program can be found at heart.org.
