Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has issued a statement following the unanimous approval by the Common Council to authorize the allocation of Syracuse Housing Strategy Corporation funds. These funds, amounting to $2.5 million, are set to be directed towards the Syracuse Urban Renewal Agency (SURA) as part of efforts to enhance housing conditions in city neighborhoods.
Mayor Walsh expressed gratitude for the Council’s cooperation, stating, “With the Council’s authorization to award allocated Syracuse Housing Strategy Corporation funds to the Syracuse Urban Renewal Agency (SURA), programming for the Syracuse Housing Strategy will be able to take the next steps forward to improve housing for city neighborhoods.”
The funding is critical for continuing implementation and initiating programs aimed at residents. The initial focus will be on launching initiatives in Salt Springs and Tipperary Hill neighborhoods, with objectives including home repairs and improvements in designated target areas.
Walsh acknowledged the collaboration with the Council as a significant step forward, adding, “I appreciate the Council working with us to advance the next steps for neighborhood outreach and program implementation.”
