Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has announced the return of the Bravest vs. Finest basketball game, featuring members of the Syracuse Fire Department and Syracuse Police Department in a matchup supporting United Way of Central New York. The event highlights the dedication of public safety personnel and supports a cause benefiting the community.

“The Bravest vs. Finest game is more than just a basketball game — it’s a testament to the dedication of our public safety personnel and their commitment to the community,” said Mayor Ben Walsh. “We’re proud that this longtime game can become a way to support United Way of Central New York and the work they do every day to strengthen and uplift our neighborhoods.”

United Way of Central New York funds over 70 local programs annually, playing a crucial role in creating opportunities and equity in Onondaga County. Nancy Eaton, President of United Way, expressed gratitude for the partnership: “United Way of Central New York is honored to be a part of the Bravest vs. Finest, and grateful to be the nonprofit partner. We’re looking forward to this opportunity to celebrate our community’s first responders, and the important work they do every day.”

Proceeds from the event will fund programs and services supporting individuals and families throughout Central New York. The Syracuse City School District is partnering in hosting the game, with the public invited to attend.

“We’re excited to host the Bravest vs. Finest basketball game in our Corcoran Gymnasium. We hope the community will join us to cheer on our first responders while contributing to a great cause that uplifts our city,” said Anthony Davis, Superintendent of Syracuse City School District.

The game will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Corcoran Gymnasium, at 919 Glenwood Ave, Syracuse, NY 13207. Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the game begins at 6:30 PM. Tickets are priced at $10, with free entry for children 5 and under.

Parking will be available on-site and in nearby lots. Attendees are advised to arrive early to ensure timely entry. Further details and tickets can be found at https://unitedway-cny.org/brave.
