Students at Syracuse University are preparing for the conclusion of the academic year with the University Union’s Block Darty and Block Party on April 25, 2025.
University Union (UU), a student-run organization at Syracuse University, organizes entertainment events on campus. Naimah Rahman, president of University Union, describes the significance of these events: “Serving as president this year has been one of the most rewarding experiences. The whole year leads up to Block Party and Block Darty, which feels like our Super Bowl. To be a part of a Syracuse University tradition that students look forward to every year is an immense honor. Our team works tirelessly all year to make sure we put on an event that the student body will resonate with. I am honored to lead an incredible team of people that make this happen!”
Block Darty, held on the Quad from 1-5 p.m., is open to Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) students. Activities will include food trucks, inflatables, and an array of student-centered events. Rhylee Hudson, collaborations director of University Union, emphasized the student-centric nature of the event, stating: “Our events are tailored for the students that come to them, so every activation, brand and activity has been thought out. Organizing Block Darty has been something amazing. I’ve never dreamed that I could’ve loved planning events this much. It is so rewarding to see people interested in our event and that makes the planning all worth it.”
An outdoor concert featuring live performances by artists Sun Room, Alex Vaughn, and Padma will also be part of Block Darty. Design director Emma Barbosa appreciated the creative opportunities provided by these events: “There aren’t many opportunities for college creatives to showcase their work on large scales. Through these events, I’ve gotten the chance to see my work displayed throughout campus and it’s a gratifying feeling seeing the campus community interact with it.”
Block Party will feature a concert headlined by two-time Grammy-nominated rapper Latto, with support from Role Model. Latto, known for her project Queen of Da Souf, continues to make headlines in the music industry. Role Model, who explores themes of love and heartbreak in his music, brings his unique sound to the event.
Tickets for the Block Party at the JMA Wireless Dome, opening at 7 p.m., are priced at $20 for Syracuse University and SUNY ESF students, faculty, and staff with a valid University ID and email address. The general public can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster, with seating available in specific areas. Tickets will also be sold at the Box Office on April 25.
